Spring Session Outfit Tips

Family sessions are such a wonderful time to capture the memories of your family over the years. These are photos you'll hang in your home and print in photo books to look through in years to come. Now, let's be honest, the process of getting everyone ready for family photos isn't always the easiest. I know it can sometimes feel like pulling teeth to get everyone dressed and ready for your session. Today, I just want to share a few simple outfit suggestions that will help make choosing outfits super easy for you and your family.

Outfit Tips

1. Coordinating does not mean matching

Choose outfits that complement rather than match. It’s actually better to choose outfits in a color family rather than all wearing the same colored outfit. This just helps to avoid the uniform look. Generally, a variety of light solid colors are the way to go.

2. Start with one person’s outfit and go from there.

Often, it is helpful to start with a mom or daughter’s outfit as inspiration and then choose the other family’s outfits based on hers. Don’t be afraid to add a pop of color or pattern- just make sure the other family members are wearing colors that complement.

3. Be comfortable and confident

I cannot stress this enough. Choose outfits that match your family's style and that y’all are comfortable in. Your session will be so much but I never want my clients to be uncomfortable with what they’re wearing.

4. Choose outfits that are flattering on you

When picking out clothing for you and your family, make sure to choose articles of clothing that complement your figure and skin tone.

5. If you’re wearing plaid or patterns, the bigger the better.

Larger patterns are actually better to photograph since it helps avoid chromatic aberration that occurs sometimes when the camera can’t pick up on all the tiny patterns.

I hope these 5 simple tips have helped you in choosing just the right outfits for family photos. And remember, no matter what you wear, y'all will be beautiful.
